I was very impressed with Taiwanese digital art scene by  its diversity and its energy. Therefore, I am very thrilled to be part of QARing 2015 and very curious about what this experience will bring up.

Joseph Polifroni

Joe Polifroni has been involved in speech and natural language processing for over 25 years. His work in the Spoken Language Systems Group of MIT’s Laboratory for Computer Science covered all aspects of Spoken Dialogue Systems research, with a focus on language understanding and response generation. He has worked extensively on automated methods for dialogue design, emphasizing user modeling for personalized content selection and presentation.

He is very interested in the intersection of allied technologies, for example, combining machine learning and language modeling (for named entity extraction), and automatic speech recognition, signal processing, and natural language (for sentiment detection from spontaneous speech). Recently he has become interested in using speech and natural language in innovative and useful ways in mobile apps, and has participated in the design and implementation of several projects in that field.

I’ve spent most of my time on AI/Spoken Dialogue research. However, the technology has come very far, just over the last few years, and I think it’s time we start learning from artists, and I think the project is going to be great, and I look forward to seeing it.

It’s a challenge presenting a monodrama and merging technology with traditional theater making.  However, by working with the QA Ring, I hope to bring everyone a brand new theatrical experience.
