Human beings and cities, humanity and technology.
Online Session
April 16th, 2014

Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company 2014 Dance Theatre and New Media Work Unbreakable.City, inspired by Italo Calvino’s book “Invisible Cities”(Le città invisibili), it’s choreographed by the company artistic director Wen-jinn Luo and co-created by the new media artist Wang Lien-chen. The first online tutoring session is consulted by Martin Honzik from Ars electronica, who provides the artists various perspectives and suggestions to think about during conception process.

About the work conception:

Luo Wen-jinn explains how she has developed the concept and how she sees new media in this work. She proposed a humanized city that is connected psychologically with people who live in it. And she’d like to present this city character by new media to make the impossible become possible. Martin is positive about the idea of the relationship between the city and human representing by dance, human, technology and new media. He is also positive about the opportunities and possibilities of new media representing the nature of the city.

Reminder from Martin:

He advises that at the end of the day, it’s about the collaborations of artists, who uses different tools, traditions, and methods to express themselves. Therefore working with the new media is just as working with the violin, what really matters is the person behind the tool.
